GLR and Louisiana Volleyball Club Host Exposure Clinics

GLR and Louisiana Volleyball Club are excited to present the first EVER College-Bound Coaches Network Minority Exposure Talent Clinic on July 26 from 2-5 p.m. at 360 Sports Volleyball Academy. 

Later that evening, GLR and Louisiana Volleyball Club are hosting the first College-Bound Coaches Network Exposure Talent Showcase 6:30-9:30 p.m., also at 360 Sports Volleyball Academy. 

At the Minority Exposure Clinic, female athletes ages 12-18 will be exposed to elite training from college coaches, former national team players and Olympian Rose Magers-Powell. The $30 clinic fee includes a tee-shirt. Click here for additional information and to register. 

At the Exposure Talent Showcase, athletes will have the chance to learn from top-notch college coaches, former national team players and Olympian Rose Magers-Powell. Players will also have the opportunity to show off their skills. This clinic costs $75 and is open to athletes ages 14-18. Click here for additional information and to register. 


Ultimate Alum Thrive on College Scene

Ultimate Volleyball Club has produced some phenomenal men's volleyball players over the years. During the 2013 men's college volleyball season, several of these players garnered awards and accolades worth noting.

Joe Smalzer finished his career with Ultimate in 2009 and ever since has continued to excel as an athlete with Loyola University. Joe has just been named the inaugural “Off the Block/Springbak, Inc Server of the Year”, out of 20 votes, Smalzer earned 10 first place votes from coaches across the country. His 69 aces are a single-season record. This season he achieved another compliment by being named the MIVA (Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) Player of the Year. In 2012 he was selected as an All-American by the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) and the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association). In 2011 as a red-shirt freshman he received the MIVA-Freshman of the Year Award.

Connor Wexter also finished his career with Ultimate in 2010 and has now set the record for assists at Carthage College in three years. What is more impressive is that he is now a three-time AVCA All-American in 2013, 2012 and in also 2011, another feather in Connor’s cap this year is being names the Player of the Year in the CVC Conference. In 2011 he was also named Freshman of the Year for the conference.

Kevin Murphy graduated from our program in 2011 and was named the “Defensive Player of the Year” for Clarke University. While Bobby Gallagher also a 2011 grad and athlete competing for Clarke was named All-Conference.

Bobby Walsh the most recent Ultimate grad and competing for Lewis University made the MIVA All-Conference Second Team selection. When playing for Ultimate Bobby was a Fab 50 selection in 2012 and also USAV All-American.
